North Carolina Department of Public Instruction - New Applicants Users' Manual - North Carolina Committee on Dropout Prevention - APPLICATION DEADLINE October 15, 2009 BY NOON

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Dropout Prevention 3 Grants. The North Carolina General Assembly has appropriated $13,000,000 to support programs and initiatives that target students at risk of dropping out of school. The Committee on Dropout Prevention has been charged by the General Assembly with awarding the grants under this program.

The purpose of this grant is to support attention and resources on innovative programs and initiatives that succeed in keeping students in school when other conflicting factors are pushing them to drop out before they are prepared to further their postsecondary education or enter the workforce.

Prior to completing the application, ALL applicants are required to complete the Computer Based Trainings (CBT) at www.ncpublicschools.org/racg/ on Logic Models and SMART Outcomes. Each CBT module has three parts: a narrative PowerPoint™, a survey and examples. Input gathered in the surveys will be submitted and formatted. Applicants will receive email communication containing the formatted Logic Model and SMART Outcomes as attached Word™ files. Both your Logic Model and SMART Outcomes will be components of your grant application. See Appendix C in the Users' Manual for New Applicants for complete instructions.

Before submitting the application, you will have a chance to preview all of your information and make any changes that are necessary. However, you will NOT be able to save an unfinished application and return to it later. Therefore, please review the Users' Manual for New Applicants carefully before attempting to complete the application. To make the best use of your time, it is recommended that you gather all necessary information prior to accessing the online application.
